Whitehorn Ltd. Co. modernizes systems, teams, and software, reducing operational risk. We work on the software an organization can't stop using while it gets fixed.

We are not a general IT consultancy. The work is narrow on purpose: understand what exists, decide what actually needs to change, and change it without stopping the business. Sometimes that is a migration. Sometimes it is a rebuild. Often the most valuable answer is that less needs to change than everyone assumed.

Jason Whitehorn

Jason Whitehorn

Founder & Principal

Jason has been a full-time CTO twice, most recently taking a company from seed through Series A while scaling its engineering organization from 2 people to more than 30 across software, data science, QA, and infrastructure.

Specific results from those roles include cutting hosting costs by roughly 80% while taking a platform from full utilization to under 25%, which is more than four times the capacity at a fifth of the cost, and halving cloud infrastructure spend at another company while improving performance. He has built a company's first dedicated engineering team, established its first QA function, hired its first product manager, and introduced version control and CI/CD to an organization that had neither.

Before that, the hands-on work: SCADA collection and visualization across thousands of well sites, machine learning monitoring the health of submersible pump equipment in near real time, timeseries databases past ten billion rows, and real-time field data platforms integrated with the industry systems operators already ran. He has been on both sides of the table - the executive making the modernization case to a board, and the engineer doing the work.

How We Work

Jason leads every engagement directly. You get the founder, not a junior associate learning on your system. When an engagement needs more hands, we bring in specialists we have vetted and worked with directly, matched to the domain, rather than staffing from a bench.

Engagements start small more often than not. An assessment, a diligence review, or a few weeks of technical leadership during a search for a permanent hire. Some stay that size. Others grow as the business does.

What We Own

Whitehorn Ltd. Co. acquired DR DOS® in 2022 and rebuilt it. The current release is a clean-room re-implementation of an operating system first shipped in 1988, still fully MS-DOS compatible, and it drew trade press coverage when it reached beta. That means source-level access to a platform most firms can only work around from the outside, and it is why we can offer custom builds, extended support, and managed sunset strategies for organizations still running DOS.

We also build Triton™ RPG, a compiler that turns RPG into Java bytecode so RPG applications can run independently of IBM i without being rewritten.

Why We're Different

We Own What We Maintain

An operating system and a compiler, both built and supported in house. Source-level access to platforms other firms can only consult around.

We've Been in Your Chair

Two CTO tenures. Our founder has inherited the system, made the case to the board, hired the team, and delivered the work.

We Build, Not Just Advise

We write code, migrate data, and ship working systems. We don't hand you a strategy deck and wish you luck.

We're Honest About Fit

If the platform move is enough, we'll say so. If you don't need us yet, we'll say that too. Our assessment is built to find the right answer, not the most expensive one.

Partner Programs

Whitehorn Ltd. Co. is a Microsoft AI Cloud Partner and an IBM Silver Business Partner. The first sits behind our applied AI work and cloud migrations. The second sits behind the IBM i and AS/400 work that makes up a large share of what we modernize.

Most engagements start with a conversation and a look at what you're running.
