Most legacy systems carry decades of undocumented business logic, tribal knowledge, and invisible dependencies. The people who built them have moved on. The documentation - if it ever existed - is outdated or missing. Before any modernization effort can succeed, you need a clear, honest picture of what you're working with.

Our assessment is designed to be low-disruption and high-clarity. We do the heavy lifting - your team provides access, not labor.

Why Assessment First

The impulse to jump straight to migration is understandable - there's urgency, there's budget pressure, and the legacy system feels like it's on borrowed time. But modernization projects that skip assessment have a pattern: they hit an undocumented dependency three months in, blow the timeline, and lose stakeholder confidence.

Assessment is the lowest-cost, lowest-risk engagement we offer. It gives you the information you need to plan a modernization or lift-and-shift correctly - whether you execute with us or with someone else.

What We Assess

We examine the full footprint of your legacy environment - not just the application layer. That includes the codebase itself (COBOL, Informix-4GL, C, proprietary languages), the infrastructure it runs on (AS/400, on-premises servers, DOS-based terminals), the data stores and how data flows between them, every upstream and downstream integration, and the security posture of the entire stack.

We also assess what's missing: undocumented business rules buried in code, integration dependencies that exist only as tribal knowledge, and manual processes that have become invisible load-bearing walls.

How It Works

1

Discovery

Identify systems in scope, gain access, and understand the organizational context. We learn who knows what - and what nobody knows anymore.

2

Analysis

Examine code, infrastructure, data flows, and integrations. Automated tooling where applicable, manual inspection where it matters. This is the bulk of the work - and it's on us, not your team.

3

Findings

We deliver assessment artifacts and walk your team through them in person. No surprises in a PDF. We make sure the people who need to act on the results understand them.

What You Get

01

System Inventory

A complete catalog of applications, services, data stores, and infrastructure components in scope - including versions, dependencies, and current state.

02

Dependency Map

A visual and documented map of how systems connect, what talks to what, and where the fragile points are.

03

Risk Register

A prioritized list of risks: end-of-life platforms, single points of failure, security gaps, compliance exposure, and knowledge concentration.

04

Modernization Roadmap

A recommended path forward with options. We assess readiness for Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud and provide phased recommendations that account for budget, risk tolerance, and operational constraints.
